Celebrating Royalty in Every Heart
I don’t even know where to begin — because there are moments in life that overwhelm you in the best way possible. My camera has seen joy, tears, laughter, family reunions, and milestone moments… but this year I had the honor of being selected as the official photographer for the Night to Shine Colorado Springs – A Prom Like No Other
dance. Let me tell you, this wasn’t just another event — this was magic with purpose.
What Night to Shine Really Is
Created by the Tim Tebow Foundation, Night to Shine is described as an unforgettable prom night experience centered on God’s love, created for teens and adults with special needs ages 14 and older.
Think red carpet. Check.
Think paparazzi cheering you on. Check.
Think a night where every guest is crowned king or queen. Double check.
It’s literally designed so that people who are often overlooked or underestimated get a moment where ALL the spotlight is on them for the right reasons.
Churches across the country — and even the world — partner with the foundation to host these unforgettable evenings. In Colorado Springs this year, several local communities came together to make it happen in a BIG way.
Royals of the Night
As a mom of a special needs daughter myself (hi, Sloane!), few things stir the heart like seeing a teen or adult shine when the world too often forgets how worthy they are.
Getting to photograph formals was next-level. These amazing young adults — dressed in their finest, grinning from ear to ear — walked down the red carpet like they belonged on center stage. Because in that moment? They did.
I met incredible families, heartfelt buddies, and guests who told me “I feel like a movie star tonight!” with eyes sparkling and spirits high. That’s no exaggeration — the atmosphere was electric. It was joy. Unfiltered. Unapologetic. Celebrated.
Some walked with assistance. Some danced with loud grins. Some took in every moment quietly, soaking it all in. All of them were loved. All of them were seen.
And oh yes — every single person was crowned a King or Queen at the end of the night. That right there — I’m pretty sure my mom-heart exploded on the spot.
Why Nights Like This Matter (More Than You Think)
For many of us who have watched our kids navigate challenges and roadblocks each day, Night to Shine offers something rare:
A night where the world doesn’t see their obstacles — just their worth.
No accommodations. No apologies. No fading into the background.
Just celebration. Laughter. Dance. Confidence. Belonging.
This is why events like Night to Shine matter so deeply — and why I’m so proud to have been part of documenting it.

Photography is about moments. But this — this was about humanity.
I went to work with a camera, but I left with my heart full. I left grateful. I left inspired. I left reminded that every single person deserves a spotlight moment where they feel loved, valued, and royal.
And honestly? I think every one of us could use a little more of that energy in our everyday lives.
