A cozy at-home session filled with golden light, toddler tears, and the kind of love that shows up exactly as it is.
There’s something extra special about being invited into a family’s home — especially when that home is tucked into the mountains, wrapped in golden light, and filled with love… and a very determined toddler.
Kim and her husband Brent invited me to their mountain home to capture photos of their sweet little family, and from the very start, it was clear who was running the show. Their beautiful toddler girl was not in the mood for photo time, especially if mom or dad tried to pick her up. Tears were shed, snacks were negotiated, and we did a whole lot of gentle pacing, soothing, and waiting for those tiny windows of calm.
And honestly? That’s real life with toddlers. And I love it.
We spent about an hour chasing light, shifting spots, and letting her take the lead while the sun slowly dipped lower in the sky. Just when the golden glow started getting really good (of course), we managed to capture some truly beautiful moments — quiet cuddles, sweet looks between Kim and Brent, and those fleeting expressions that happen when families just exist together instead of posing for the camera.
Later, we found out that their little girl had an ear infection, which explained a lot. Poor thing wasn’t feeling good, but she still showed up as the absolute star of the session — and made sure we all followed her schedule. As she should. 👑
Despite the challenges, or maybe because of them, their final gallery turned out even better than anyone could have hoped for. The images are full of connection, tenderness, and that cozy, at-home feeling that tells the story of this season of their lives exactly as it is — beautiful, messy, emotional, and full of love.
Kim and Brent were a dream to work with. Calm, patient, and completely devoted to their little girl, they trusted the process and allowed the session to unfold naturally. And that trust is what creates photos that actually feel like your family — not just what you look like.
Sessions like this are such a good reminder that perfect behavior is not required for perfect memories. Sometimes the most meaningful photos come from the in-between moments, the soothing hugs, the deep breaths, and the parents who show up with nothing but love, even when their kiddo is having a rough day.
Kim, Brent, and your sweet girl — thank you for inviting me into your home and letting me capture your story. It was an honor, and your family is every bit as beautiful as these moments show. 🤍
If you’ve been thinking about capturing your own version of this—real, playful, a little unpredictable magic—I’d love to create something with you.
